This PR is missing some code from the original PR that cleans up some now
not needed data kept in the UI. That's because SPARK-20647 is not yet
committed. When both that and this PR are in, I'll do the cleanup, probably as
part of SPARK-20650.
This change is kinda large, but it gets a bit smaller if you ignore
whitespace changes:
