Yes, If we do not add `alterPartitionsMethod`,
[HiveExternalSessionCatalogSuite.alter
partitions](https://github.com/apache/spark/blob/d73bb92a72fdd6c1901c070a91b70b845a034e88/sql/catalyst/src/test/scala/org/apache/spark/sql/catalyst/catalog/SessionCatalogSuite.scala#L951)
will fail, too.
