It also means we're on the spot to keep those images up-to-date, e.g. because of security updates in the base images. I generally see the dockerfiles in the distro as "templates" that people could customize to their needs and should manage / publish in their own environments. That being said, if we could parameterize things it could be a simple enhancement. Is the base image the only thing that changes in the gpu dockerfiles?
