I appreciate both of your taking the time to engage in this discussion and recognising that this has practical value. Let me just add that there's people on Stackoverflow [being told](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/51728177/can-pyspark-work-without-spark) that pyspark contains all of spark, while explicitly wondering why the `sbin` folder isn't included. And that there's been [a PR](https://github.com/conda-forge/pyspark-feedstock/pull/4) to add the `sbin` scripts to the conda package of pyspark.
