this works, but I'm wondering if we can replace it with a UDF. e.g.
```
val badUDF = udf { (id: Long): Long => throw new RuntimeException(...) }
spark
.range(5)
.selectExpr("badUDF(id) AS a")
.createOrReplaceTempView("test")
```
