Have combined @squito @attilapiros and @dhruve 's suggestions into another PR: https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/24072. This PR uses ordering on lock acquisition and fixes the deadlock issue. It is relatively a lot simpler to reason about than the current PR. Request you to have a look and let me know so that I can close this PR. Thank you.
