This patch is out of date. Please see of the corresponding JIRA for more
discussion in this matter. TL;DR: This pattern is useful in general for all
receivers and therefore should be added in a general manner rather than only
for Kafka.
In the meantime, until that discussion is resolved, could you close this PR?
