But, SPARK-28655 is an improvement PR and Apache Spark don't allow new feature backporting. So, an improvement PR to non-`master` branch is invalid from the beginning. Like your previous PR, I need to close this PR, https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/25387 . You can open this to `master` branch. BTW, the new PR description should answer @srowen 's question when you reopen this to `master`. > This isn't opened vs master. Also, there are already several properties that let you limit how much history is retained. Why is this needed?
