Ah I see. I like the idea. But if the default value is 1, it doesn't matter
does it? This implementation has been wildly tested yet outside of mllib, so
I'm slightly hesitant to use it directly in reduce, which is a frequently used
api. Maybe we can reconsider this again a few releases down when treeReduce is
more battle tested?
