I emailed a polite question about this to Richard Friedman at Red Hat in
March, but never got any reply back.
It's bound to be a interesting process. Is it the first time Red Hat has
open sourced a proprietary application critical to their business model?
Depends on what you think is critical to their business model I guess.
Red Hat has open sourced important proprietary applications before,
like the directory services products acquired from Netscape.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that open sourcing the current
version of RHN would require disentanglement from a certain database
... probably not an easy task in the short term. Just one outsider's
guess. I'm not expecting it any time soon.
