On the ethics of things, my two cents, IANARHE (I Am Not A Red Hat Employee),
IAANH (I Am A Newbie Here), is the following:

There once was a major car built in the USA with a very derogatory sexual name
in Québec speech. After the release, they tried to push it in here, but
couldn’t because of the obvious sexual nature of name.

This could’ve been avoided if someone somewhere in the car dealerships and
company offices with access with prerelease information would’ve told them
something. But they didn’t, or the message never went to the proper person in
the hierarchy… or someone said it was unimportant.

In other words, my point is I prefer to know it before than to know it when
it’s too late. And later is better than never and being a running joke in a
whole section of the world.

Accessorily, IMHO, the message wasn’t derogatory, nor evil, nor bad, it simply
stated a fact and the obvious result. I don’t know what is the range of the
“local” in the culture, but it might be worth renaming ^^.

I am sure it goes without saying, but your "joke" is not funny at all,
nor is it appropriate for this list.

Please be considerate of others on this list. Thanks.

In my culture, his message would not be considered inappropriate (nor funny,)
whereas yours would be. Our cultural taboos are less about sexuality than about
unjust application of power.

It is extremely difficult to do business across cultures, unless you also apply
the kind of sensitivity to reading as you require from the writer.

Think of that what you will, but please don't include me in your sweeping
statements - either qualify them as RH positions on mailing list behaviour,
your opinions, or something else.
