Both Nautilus and Konqueror allow you to browse windows shares.
In Nautilus (the gnome gui file manager): File->Connect to Server
and then choose Windows share from the "Service type." I'm
assuming the rest will be obvious.
In Konqueror (KDE gui file manager among other things): Go->Network
Folders (though there are probably multiple paths).
These are less than ideal solutions for two reasons.
1. You cannot see these mounts in the terminal
2. Only native gnome apps(gedit, Nautilus, etc) can browse the
shares. same goes for KDE. So for example if you use connect to
server with Nautilus to mount a Windows share you can't use oowriter
or the gimp to browse that share.
The above problems combined with only root being able to mount shares
from the CLI is a big problem in my book. Using something like FUSE
will solve the non privileged mounting problem. I don't know if there
is GUI for mounting SMB shares through FUSE though.
