The system probably thinks the detected display isn't capable of
more than 800x600. Set the display type to something generic like
'1280x1024 lcd' and 1280x1024 should be available.

This looks like a VMware problem because I run RHEL5 under parallels
on my Mac and I can set the monitor to generic LCD 1280X1024. It
works as expected.
