All of the systems that I'll be putting RHEL 5 on have monitors
capable of 1280x1024 (with a few that are widescreen).
In my test environment (vmware), the display will only do
800x600. If I edit the xorg.conf to include a Modes "1280x1024"
line it gets ignored.
If I run system-config-display, it won't give me the option to
select a resolution higher than 800x600.
The system probably thinks the detected display isn't capable of
more than 800x600. Set the display type to something generic like
'1280x1024 lcd' and 1280x1024 should be available.
I tried setting it to a generic LCD 1280x1024 and got nowhere.
Still plugging away at it.

This looks like a VMware problem because I run RHEL5 under parallels
on my Mac and I can set the monitor to generic LCD 1280X1024. It
works as expected.
