Instead, they try to hide stuff by using hidden directories in /etc: The 
package contains:

/etc/.java/.systemPrefs/.system.lock
/etc/.java/.systemPrefs/.systemRootModFile

This looks somewhat strange to me. 

Btw, I tried installing jdk-6u1-linux-i586.rpm on a RHEL5 Client system 
today, without luck. After creating the symbolic link in 
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins as usual, about:plugins in Firefox showed the 
Java plugin, but no Applets worked. Using jdk-1_5_0_10-linux-i586.rpm and 
java-1.5.0-sun-compat-1.5.0.10-1jpp.i586.rpm worked, though, although it 
took a while before I figured this out.
