I sent a message here a while back about problems with tomcat and BEA Java under RHEL 5. I have had several follow-up questions that I haven't responded to (sorry about that). I did more testing, trying all available JREs (BEA and IBM 1.4 and 1.5 included with RHEL as well as Sun 1.5 built into jpackage RPMs) with the same results.
I went back and forth with Red Hat support for a bit, escalating the case, and the end result was that they really only support tomcat with gcj (even though the alternate JREs are included in the supplementary channel, and installing them takes preference in alternatives over gcj). However, the last comment I had from them was that they had identified the problem and it would be fixed in a future update. The problem (thanks to Ian Young for pointing this out) is in the redhat-rpm-config scripts; Fedora bugzilla is: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=234286 It appears that it has been fixed for FC6. Also, it appears that redhat-rpm-config-8.0.45-17.0.1.el5 (released a few days ago) fixes the source of the problem for RHEL 5, but it does not look like the tomcat package has been rebuilt to fix this problem. I rebuilt tomcat from the latest Fedora SRPM in a mock root and it worked, probably because I didn't included redhat-rpm-config in my root; rebuilding the RHEL tomcat would probably work as well (or the update released a couple of weeks ago). Due to some odd circumstances, I don't have access to the server I had this problem on (nor the Red Hat account I opened the case on). -- Chris Adams <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Systems and Network Administrator - HiWAAY Internet Services I don't speak for anybody but myself - that's enough trouble. _______________________________________________ rhelv5-list mailing list [email protected] https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/rhelv5-list
