the two sites and if either goes down the load will be moved to the
other site.

I have a setup running with drbd and heartbeat. It does not do load balancing though. What we do is run apache on node 1 and the database on node 2. When a problem occurs, one node can perform both functions.

We use packages for CentOS to do this in our setup, because they provide complete packages for both heartbeat and drbd.
