Hi List,

We have a spot of bother. We're running a fully up to date RHEL5.1 on a Sun x4600 M2 server with Emulex LightPulse fibre channel cards to connect to a Sun StorageTek 2540 disk array. This uses the lpfc driver. We've had an awful lot of trouble getting it to work consistently.

When encountering an issue we've had kernel panics when trying to remove the driver and a lot of hassle getting things working generally

Last night this happened:

Jan 8 04:08:16 bedford kernel: sd 3:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x06000000
Jan 8 04:08:16 bedford kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sdc, sector 31031

The array became read only and then eventually the OS denied it was a valid block device. Again, when we tried to remove the driver module the machine kernel panicked. We're pretty sure this is something to do with a bug in the kernel below 2.6.23 which causes disks to vanish, etc. Although the only reference we can find is in the Fedora stream. Has anyone had any similar issues?

Ben
