I pasted the command below on one line where it goes "....pid ] !!
/sbin/ser....." in the middle.

I get a cron email that says
Cron <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> [ -f /var/named/chroot/var/run/named/named.pid ] !!
/sbin/service named restart

/bin/sh: line 0: [: missing `]'

Is there something more or different needed for an older AS4.0 system that I
am practicing on? My named.pid is in the listed path and I don't see why it
is whining.

Thanks,
Bill Watson

An entry like so in root's crontab is a handy workaround:
<snip>
*/5 * * * * [ -f /var/named/chroot/var/run/named/named.pid ] !!
/sbin/service named restart

Note: one line

Note, Each five minutes might not be your choice, but chances are that
by the time anyone notices it's fixed.
