I've tried the Red Hat 5.1 install cd as well as the Red Hat 4 install
cd, same problem. Centos 5.1 gives the same issue.
Try booting with "linux hda=noprobe"
Yeah, tried that as well. It produces the same problem as the
askmethod, where every keystroke is duplicated.
Since both of the issues you describe seem like they might be related to
interrupts it might be worth trying some of the common interrupt related
boot options like "pci=nommconf", "pci=noacpi" etc. Or perhaps a
combination of those options.
Tried all variants of the two, still no go.
I did see the following though:
hda: status error: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeeComplete DataRequest Error}
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: drive not ready
