I solved the problem by setting up 3 different htdig directories.  I chose this
route because not only you need 3 different configuration files but you also 
need
3 different htsearch executables as well as 3 different DB directories.
In the long run I will have less trouble remembering whatdoes what if I had put 
them all together.  I did used the same directory for the images directories 
for the
"star" images.

rundig takes a -c option letting you specify a different config file,
and htsearch takes a config parameter that lets you do the same (as
long as the config file is in the /etc/htdig directory).
