Hi.

We have some very stable RHEL 5.1 servers that we need to update. If we are
to apply all available patches the version number increments to 5.2. What is
best practice in such situations - does one apply all available patches, or
select patches relevant for 5.1 only (thus keeping version number 5.1)? As
our servers are very stable, I don't see the need for any patches that are
not security or bug fix related. In other words, we are not in need of any
new features.

We're using Satellite Server 5.0.1 at the moment, and as far as I know these
is no options enforcing version number to stay 5.1. But in Satellite server
5.1 this feature is implemented. So basically, we're wondering if the best
thing would be to upgrade to Satellite server 5.1 and use the above
mentioned feature to ensure that our servers remain at RHEL 5.1.

Any input on this are appreciated.

Regards,
Kenneth Holter
