There is one feature of yum working:

yum --version
3.2.8

Anything else results in errors. e.g. yum help

yum help

On another 64 bit machine I used yumdownloader to get the existing default
selection of rpm packages, copied them to the broken host and forced an
install from rpm - no difference. Also tried installing
python-sqlite-1.1.7-1.2.1.x86_64.rpm
again as one report said that worked. No luck.

The rpm database seems fine - can run any rpm commands or queries.

The net is littered with reports on this and there doesn't seem to be
a typical cause.

Does anyone have a solution for this - running on Redhat 5.2 ?
