RedHat EL 5.2 fully updated.
ISC DHCP 3.0.5 (Red hat supplied)
We are attempting to use the option dhcp-client-identifier feature within dhcpd but
are seeing failures on the server & no lease being given out,
Direct example:
I have not used dhcp-client-identifier, but I have used
vendor-class-identifier and other information to customise my response.
You can see my latest working configuration here:
http://tk.js.id.au/dhcpd.conf
I'm using dhcp-3.0.1-62.EL4 on WBEL4, a RHEL4 clone. I have a similar
file on dhcp3-server 3.0.4-13 on Debian.
In my case, I tailor the response depending on the requestor software,
and can give different replies to firmware (Intellish and Mac), to
Anaconda and debian-installer and Windows.
To discover values I generally run tcpdump to trap the output, but some
might prefer wireshark, it is rather good.
