Hi there

We're having an awful time with Yum and new RHEL 5.2 builds.

Welcome to my world.

Repeated invocations of "yum install httpd" has one of several outcomes, seemingly at random:

* Error: failed to retrieve repodata/filelists.xml.gz from rhel-x86_64-server-5
error was [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum
[...]
* yum deciding to install our own custom httpd package (called nol-httpd) from our own repo. This package also depends on (RedHat) libapr but these dependencies aren't satisfied:
[...]
Could there be something up with RHN?

Yes.

There doesn't seem to be anything on the rhn-outage list. Any other ideas? We're tearing our hair out and have another 80 or so servers to build over the next week or two.

Suggestions very gratefully received!

I've had unnumbered issues with RHN in the last few weeks. My servers' logs are full of notifications about being unable to contact the repos or not being able to get the metadata correctly, or the checksums not matching. Downloads fail regularly.

Basically, RHN repo access is flaky as hell (for us). I also have frequent occasions when the web site comes up with a 500 error too. I'd love someone to disabuse me of my notion that there's something very broken with Red hat's connectivity/services and point me at the correct reason.

No, I have not logged any calls about it, we don't pay for support, only subscriptions and management-level entitlements.
