Subject: Re: [rhelv5-list] print server
I checked the Ricoh website, they seem to be supporting rhel 4& 5
so I do not understand why they would put a dependency that requires
you
to have Fedora.
Could you tell me which models we are talking about?

Hi Tosh

the printers in question are -

MP3550
http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Ricoh-Aficio_MP_3350
MP2550
http://www.openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Ricoh-Aficio_MP_2550

I cannot install the drivers via RPM because they require redhat_lsb 3.2
which is only available in fedora.

I installed the ppd file and I can see the options to set print locking
etc but the prints fail.
And ppd fail is only available in cups and not in system-config-printer.

Also I made a mistake earlier, the clients systems are running RHAS 3.

Thanks
Nick.

Ricoh supports officially the following os :
RedHat® Linux 6.x/7.x/8.x/9.x/Enterprise

anyway one way I think this might work is the following procedure
1)
rpm2cpio openprinting-ppds-postscript-ricoh-20081112-1lsb3.2.noarch.rpm | cpio -iuvd
2)
cp -v opt/OpenPrinting-Ricoh/ppds/Ricoh/* /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/PPD/Ricoh/PS/
3)
restart cups twice and it should appear

I don't have these printers, so I cannot really test it, but they do appear in the list, and it should work theoreticly
