Approving the nomination of the new Attorney General nominee, Alberto Gonzales, would be a nail in the coffin of democracy in America. This is the man who wrote the legal position defending the unchallenged imprisonment of Muslims in Guantanamo and the use of torture in Abu Gharaib, and called the provisions of the Geneva Convention protecting soldiers from abuse 'quaint' The Patriot Act and the Dept. of Homeland Security, combined with the destruction of Constitutional protections of due process, free speech and assembly and the fervor of the Christian Coalition of Rapture-hopeful war-mongerers who think a nuclear world war would get them to heaven faster, all spell a bleak future run by the Halliburton/Carlysle/Bec-Tel triumvirate of corporate and religious fascism. "You're either with us, or you're with the terrorists" can then easily be translated into, "If you protest or speak ill of our policies, you are a terrorist" who can then be held indefinitely in an undisclosed location without due process and tortured, or shot on site as an enemy of the state. Chairman Mao achieved this in China's so-called Cultural Revolution in the late 60's, where dissenting opinions, alleged or real, brought violent results to the dissenter, including public humiliation, banishments to impoverished rural work farms, or executions of the 'intellectuals' and counter-revolutionaries, while stripping the alleged violator and his/her family of any property or possessions of value. The rise of fascism is not an overnight explosion, it's a long process fueled by mis-information and propaganda, concentration of economic wealth and power, and the domination of military strenth, all of which have been accelerating in this country and in our foreign policy, with a hard stomp on the gas pedal to be expected with the 2nd coronation of the neo-con triumvirate in January. How long before the trial runs practiced in places like Chile, Argentina, El Salvador, and Iraq are considered enough to turn the same military/ police state violence against the voice of dissent in America? Anti-war protests in L.A. this week drew the presence of two American military tanks, and while the National Guard is claiming they weren't theirs, the running excuse is they were Marines who 'just happened to be in the area' With the history of the 1st coronation drawing thousands to the street in Washington in 2001, and the grass-roots efforts to make this year's version a massive anti-war protest, reports are already being divulged that there will be 4,000 plus COMBAT troops in Washington on Inauguration Day. How long before swearing an "Oath of Allegiance to the Party" will be required for much more than entrance to a campaign speech? How long before anyone caught without a party (New Republican) rule book (the officially published New Testament) on their person, or without a 'National Security" computer chip in their arm, will be considered an enemy of the state and hauled off to prison(concentration) camps? I fear for this country and the rest of the world, and especially for our children, who may never see the America, or even the planet, we have loved and cherished throughout our lifetimes. Please support the many efforts to recount the vote, or to impeach our Beloved Impostor. It's too late for 100,00 Iraqis and 1200 Americans, but it's not too late for the rest of us, our children,the billions of people on this planet, and generations to come.
