According to the World Health Organization, cancers of all types will
increase about 300% in Iraq over the next 10 years due to the use of
depleted uranium weapons...the most marked effects will be on fetuses
and young children. Birth defects have already risen dramatically.
Remember, these weapons were not in any way required in Iraq.
Non-uranium weapons would have been more than sufficient to destroy
Iraq's infrastructure and rout the Iraqi army. Military planners knew
this, of course, as did their civilian bosses.
