None of the arguments made herein by either side make any difference. They
are about as pertinent as arguing claim to the property of the United
States. The fact that Israel exists is not disputable. The fact that
Palestinians now have national aspirations matters regardless how
efficacious anyone believes their rights, whether de jure or de facto.
That aborigines in the U.S. have claims does not mean the U.S. is going to
extinguish itself in favor of those claims. What matters and the only
thing that matters is what is being ignored by most here and that is what
is to be done now to satisfy all the parties and what can be done without
dismantling Israel and still showing enough justice to claims -- some
predicated on Ottoman land grants and deeds held by Palestinians,
including grants and deeds held by Jews, and make it possible for them all
to live together. Can that be done in two states the way the land is
divided now? Not likely. Can you do that in one state as long as there
remains intransigent religious, i.e. with their fanatic "greater "Israel"
claims?
Can any state remain Jewish, Islam, Christian? Is democracy a step all
parties should consider for the benefit of all with a Constitution to
protect the rights of the disparate parties to this dispute? It seems the
only way. Without it the dispute will maintain even if there is an imposed
two state solution now which is no solution at all. Sharon and Bush's way
is a fanatic, undemocratic, unjust solution and will not work.
