It is very sad that you must put terms like "Zionist" into little boxes so
you can understand what it means TO YOU. Zionism is like socialism a
multi-definitional term. I don't need to explain it here. Not now because
it has been done before. It is, like _"liberalism"_ not a bad word or term
or one that deserves your derision. When Americans were reluctantly
intransigent about permitting Jews to enter the U.S., to escape their
death -- which was unmistakably understood by everyone at the time,
ZIONISM was the hope and contrary to what has been said here by some,
Israel (then Palestine) was not a land which was uninhabited. It was
inhabited by Arabs and JEWS. Maybe not in equal numbers, but by each
nevertheless and the division of the land was based on purchase and on
demographics. Where Jews lived they would control and where Arabs lived,
they would control -- only the Arabs were not interested. Now they are.
Zionism is not racist anymore than Americanism is racist even though many
Americans live on my wife's ancestral land in North Carolina and they took
it in a war far less noble than the one the Jews fought to insure their
security via the land grants, the contracts of purchase, the deeds, and
the acquisition by war (the method by which most countries acquired their
territories).
Let's be fair.. And no racism here and too often I read anti-Zionism as
racism when it is thrown around without any consideration for all the
reasons why it became a legitimate and respected term and I will add to
that, that it still is. Blanket definitions are no more fitting or
appropriate than blanket judgments about anything else..
