Thank you for this, but what are your views on this topic? Surely you have
much to say about it and that is what I would like to see here - as you
have done with other postings.
I also think that we should not neglect this subject even though our main
concern as Americans go to the Iraqi conflict because of our direct
involvement and with Israel it is not as direct, but we certainly do have
an indirect involvement and a concern for the humanity of the problem
which may be exacerbated by the green light George Bush has apparently
given to Ariel Sharon. There is also the problem of the _religious_
settlers, who believe their contract is with god and no one else. Neither
can we ignore the result of inhumanity of Muslims against women and other
divisions within their religion when it causes death and harm. Of course
we have a United Nations where those issues are supposed to be addressed
and perhaps we should look at the job the UN is doing and what is
preventing it from being the world's arbitrator of disputes and for
preventing crime and not a party to it themselves -- as with the prior
sanctions against Iraq which caused so many to die. There is a lot here to
have an opinion about.
I'm sure you and others here can address those issues. While I'm on that
topic, I want to thank Mr Fein for his valuable and thought provoking
ideas presented here -- and others who are elaborating on those important
views --- even where we may disagree.
Speaking of which I still have not made up my mind about Kerry. It is a
hard decision and being even more difficult since reading his
autobiography (more on that later) and now about a third of the way into
his biography by journalists from the Boston Globe. What an eye opener
that has been. I read an editorial yesterday which got me to thinking
about why Kerry must commit to end it. I'm not sure a UN solution is
reasonable now. To avoid further death and destruction should be the first
and only consideration and how to best accomplish that and not oil
contracts and other capitalist considerations. I welcome your
_progressive_ thoughts on all of this.
