ANNOUNCEMENTS and ARTICLES: http://pnews.org/art/art.shtml

I would be lost without the assistance of my computer literate children,
one of whom is a pro on all such things and the other an ex-manager (for
a year) of her college computer system. With their help, however, I get
bailed out here and there and they have assisted in setting up
discussion/information lists in areas where I happen as a
social/political/legal philosopher to have interests. In case any want
to explore another of these lists, they can be found regularly in my
signature below. One can set one's postings to come in individually as
they are posted, a daily digest, or no mail, which allows one to check
the web site for mail whenever one wishes without receiving direct
mailings -- handy during this vacation period:

It is also quite easy to set up a group of one's own (free of charge) if
one has a particular area of interest and concern. Generally I try to
prime the pump with postings of things and then happily people from all
over the globe often sign in and make interesting contributions to the
lists of stuff that is not publicized here by most of our media, alas.
We receive things from various good sources that we pass along.
I think I may set up a group for our Brooklyn College students when the
fall semester begins. There are innumerable places where quick
communication can be useful. I have phone lists for my classes, but
there is no reason not to have class email lists for particular courses,
which would allow not only current students, but also alums to join in
-- continuing education, as it were, as well as out of class discussions.
Of the four below the first two have grown into the forties in
membership and the other more recent ones are picking up speed. The
last, 440 Neighborhood, was started for my own building and environs,
but has shifted to local political, social, shopping or whatever things
in the Columbia University area and to the north into West Harlem
encompassed by our local Community Board #9. Our some 60 community
boards in NYC are made up of up to 50 members appointed upon application
by our boro presidents and local representatives. They, thus, have
direct contact with local politicians and groups, and can have
considerable influence on planning, land use, schools, uniformed forces,
land marking, parks, transportation etc. Our pols or a representative
attend their monthly meetings.
There are other things that can be done with the lists if any of the
members are interested:

I see myself only as the initiator of these particular groups. I do not
moderate, but do intervene to remove the occasional spammer or person
attacking others or going far afield with propaganda and such.
I hope all feel free to ask questions, contribute, offer suggestions,
whatever. If anyone wants to reach me personally, my office phone
number below offers one of our two family phone numbers in its message
and I am listed in the Manhattan phone directory.
