the nuremburg trials tried judges, law makers and university spreaders of propaganda not the soldier in the field who has only two options in a time of war, obey or be shot. some have a little room to work and they often do, but to deliberately disobey is called mutiny and in time of war you can be shot on the spot. ultimetly, it is the leaders of the nation who make policy decisions who are responsible and should be held accountable. No one is a hero for simply doing what they are told to do. Heroes have choices: they choose to take action based on their own reasoning and conscience, regardless of the danger to themselves, and choose to accept the consequences of their choices. A soldier is not given that option and therefore can not be a hero simply for following orders. Has anyone ever heard of the Nuremburg Trials? The real heroes are those who do not simply do as they are told but stand up and speak out when they are ordered to act against their consciences. Kerry was heroic when he spoke out against the lies perpetuated by the government policies of Johnson and Nixon. If only our current soldiers were so wise and so brave. The idolization of our soldiers is simply a strategy used by the people in power to distract you and me from the real issues. The current war is illegal and immoral and we should never have done it. Our soldiers currently in Iraq should not be there. Good intentions don't matter. The antiwar movement made the case that Bush did not: that this war was wrong. The information was there, but the pro-war majority of this country undemocratically chose to be swayed by savy media manipulation and emotional threats. If a person rejects accurate information and still chooses to commit evil actions, he has still chosen evil over good. FYI, Kerry has already admitted he plans to send more Americans to die in Iraq. This war is NOT about terrorism, Saddam, or the freedom of the Iraqi people. It's about establishing the American empire for the 21st century. Kerry differs from Bush only in the presentation of his program, not in the substance. That is why I can not support Kerry and why I speak out against him.
