The war Noodles mail is footing the bill for (if you are from the US [and from the email address it appears that he/she is] and if you are talking about Iraq) is yours! The US started it against the wishes of rest of the world (except a few vassals and sycophants such as Britain and Australia). Why should the rest of the world foot the bill for a war that it opposed and is being (very badly) run for the benefit of US big business? Although the whole world recently forgave Iraqi debt (billions) meaning that Iraq does not have to repay its debts and can devote the whole of its income to paying people like McDonalds for that organization's losses (other US based businesses have weighed in seeking damages from Iraq - see Naomi Klein's article of a month or so ago) and Haliburton for providing services including security (security that is necessary because that big Haliburton shareholder Dick Cheney was instrumental in having the US invade Iraq). So I suppose that the rest of the world is paying, indirectly, for America's war. We lose our money and the big US businesses keep creaming it off the top.
As to the UN funding aid, the UN does not have an independent existence - it is totally dependant upon resources (including funds) from member countries. And I am fascinated by the use of the word "greed" to describe the UN - projection perhaps? The tsunami victims are fellow human beings who desperately need our help. We should all assist even if it causes some individual discomfort. Interesting that Israel (6 million people) sent its aid on Monday but reduced its component because Sri Lanka said that it could not accommodate all the Israel aid personnel that Israel proposed sending (read that Wed morning Oz time, Tuesday evening US time). Australia (population 20 million) has pledged 35 million dollars and the US (population 200-300 million) pledged some 50 million this morning (Oz time) but is sending a fleet or two although I do not know whether that is to be charged against the 50 million or is additional. Waiting to see what other countries will give. That, to me, is the sign of what a country is worth. And on top of governbment aid there will be the hundreds of non governmnet aid bodies that will be pitching in. The charities have already been seeking money from teh public for a couple of days Garth Cartledge > > From: WEBMASTER <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Date: 30/12/2004 4:03:37 > To: [email protected] > Subject: [RHETORIC] OK, why do you think we should help or not? > > From: "Noodles Mail" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > (forwarded for sender) > > You know we are footing the bill for this war,Why should we be sending aid > to these countries for the tidal wave.If it happened to us we would get > nothing from them in aid .Let the Un do there job and cough up the > moneyout there own greedy pockets to help. > > This message was sent through MyMail http://www.mymail.com.au ----- / o o \ ===OO=====OO================================================== http://pnews.org/ (links) http://pnews.org/PhpWiki/ (West Coast News Wiki) http://g0lem.net/PhpWiki/ (East Coast News Wiki) =============================================================== Sub/Unsub [pnews-l - rhetoric] :: http://pnews.org/signup.shtml =============================================================== ================== FIGHT THE RIGHT! ==================
