Subject: [ccpga] multiculturalism

Hello Group,

I had heard during my time in the university that no one culture is superior to
another.  At the time the position was stated but not widely held. Increasingly
more people believe that including more academics.  A few years back, some MBA
from Harvard told no one culture is superior to another.  He heard it from some
professor and believed it himself.    I told this guy that he and that
professor have a lot to learn, that I have a history background, and have been
to far places.  I admitted our culture is not perfect and can use improvement
especially since  an increasing number of people don't stand for
anything and are losing their collective spine.  But to say it's on the
same level as a culture that worships idols, sacrifices chickens, keeps most of
its people illiterate or functionally illiterate, keeps slaves, or burns widows
((his parents came from India)) is absolute nonsense.  That all cultures are
equal is at best an unproven
hypothesis and more realistically a bunch of crap. I did point out that if he
really believes that, he didn't get as much value out of his education as he
should have.

Immigration here worked when we needed it and when people from abroad wanted to
assimilate.  When somebody doesn't want to fit in and also wants to change
other people to a more backward social system, then it doesn't work as Western
Europe is finding out.

Andrew
