Pat,
I have my doubts about the brake lock too, though I hook mine up anyway.  I figure
it's there for a reason.  As for which would be better in an accident, there are
so many variables it'd be hard to say.  I tend to think locking wheels would be
better than the trailer zooming off down a hill or something though!
Greasing the hitch can be fun.  I have no grease fitting on mine so just take a
latex glove, smear the grease on it, smear it on the hitch (with it all the way
up) and run it up and down a couple times.  Do not use WD-40 or the like; it will
beak down the grease.
