It is both a strength and a weakness of the ROC that it is the project of one individual. As you said, many people are involved in mananging it, but the driving force was always Susan and it is fundamentally her ride. So, its continuation depends on her willingness to do all that hard work to carry off such a high-profile event. Major events that have continued 20 years and more, like the Tevis and the Old Dominion, were started by an individual with a vision but their management was passed to organizations. The people that make up the Western States Trail Foundation can burn out, can come and go, but there is always someone ready to step up and fill the vacancy, and the ride goes on. This is not a criticism of Susan, she has done a tremendous job with the ROC, but if the ROC is to become a permanent, ongoing event in the long run it will at some point have to follow the same path. -- Joe Long [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
