I use bermuda/alfalfa blend pellets which I feed mixed with beet pulp pellets, and generally start the next meal's batch just after feeding the prior meal. In the winter I keep the buckets in the house so they don't freeze, but they're outside all the time now. I've never had any problems with rancidity or fermentation. Don't know, maybe the addition of bermuda grass in the pellets makes the difference and I've just been lucky.
