geo [EMAIL PROTECTED] there have been suits filed and WON in bicycle racing when management didn't require athletes to wear CERTIFIED helmets. As a ride manager, if someone gets hurt and takes me to court and his attorney asks me if I believe helmets save lives and I say yes ... then I better be prepared to give them the farm. AERC and ride managers are totally leaving themselves open for a lawsuit. As an attorney, I can tell you the real world does not allow for the "we aren't going to tell people what to wear" when it comes to safety. That goes for covered stirrups too which is why FEI requires them because they aren't about to leave it hanging out there.
