OK. This only works on an SGI using the free 3D viewer "ivview" that comes
with the machine. First create two VRML files "file1.wrl" and "file2.wrl"
representing the two 3D structures (eg use http://barns.ill.fr/dif/icsd or
Larry Finger's DRAWxtl granite.ciw.edu/~finger/ or Armel le Bail's STRUVIR
http://fluo.univ-lemans.fr:8001/vrml/vrmlinfo.html ...there are lots more...)
Then create the little ASCII file "blinker.iv" below & run "ivview blinker.iv"
++++++++++++++++++++
#Inventor V1.0 ascii
Blinker {
speed 1 # Cycles per second
File { name file1.wrl }
File { name file2.wrl }
}
++++++++++++++++++++
This flips rapidly between the two 3D structures, which you can turn around
and examine. I will try to get something similar to work on a PC using VRML-2
and include it in ICSD-for-WWW. Or maybe Armel will do it first, since he
thinks PC's are as good as SGI's (and cheaper :-)
