The new high flux neutron powder diffractometer D20 will be back on line soon,
and proposals for it as well as for other ILL instruments must be submitted by
15 February ! Proposals can be submitted electronically on http://www.ill.fr/

For those who don't know, D20 is a 1600 element microstrip detector covering
160 degrees. Complete diffraction patterns can be obtained in under a second.
(see: http://www.ill.fr/dif/DG-instruments.html )

Finally here is a follow up to Thomas Kerestedjian's question. ICSD-for-WWW
can now compare any number of structures in 3D (http://barns.ill.fr/dif/icsd)
using no more than a PC :-)

You can now compare structures graphically in 3D. Select 2 or more
structures, or paste multiple data-sets into the structure data window, and
click Display. The 3D display will "blink" between the structures. This is
very useful for comparing different determinations of the same structure,
phase transitions etc.

For example, search for author Cava and elements Y1 Ba2 Cu3 O, select the
first two entries, which correspond to the first X-ray structure and the
most cited Neutron structure, click the Structure button, then Display. Now
you can understand why neutrons are important !
