Dear Nicki,
Rietveld structural determination for clay minerals,
particularly the smectite group,
is a difficult task. Our group (Les Dale's at CSIRO, Energy Technology) has
been researching
the quantitative applications of Rietveld analysis for several years and
very early on we decided to use
reference patterns obtained from "standard" clays. We have found this
approach to be very successful
for the quantitative determination of clay minerals and are presently in the
process of expanding the
clay reference database. Unfortunately we cannot supply you with a
montmorillonite standard
structure as our clay database is sold as part of a commercial package
SIROQUANT of which
you may be aware. However if you would like further information please
contact me offline.
