Call for registration on behalf of Dr. Claudia Weidenthaler: Workshop " Watching the Action II: Non Ambient X-Ray Powder Diffraction Methods For In-House Diffractometers"
September 26 28 2007, Max-Planck-Institut fuer Kohlenforschung, Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz 1, 45470 Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany http://www.mpi-muelheim.mpg.de/xray/ Tentative Speakers: Robert E. Dinnebier (MPI, Stuttgart) Bernd Hinrichsen (MPI, Stuttgart) Christian Resch (Anton Paar, Graz) Angelika Teresiak (IFW, Dresden) Daniel Többens (Universität Innsbruck) Claudia Weidenthaler (MPI Mülheim) Local contact: Claudia Weidenthaler (Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung, Mülheim) [EMAIL PROTECTED] Workshop Description The workshop is intended for scientists in solid state research, geo-sciences, crystallography, solid state physics and material science interested in polymorphism, crystallography at non-ambient conditions, and/or kinetics. The variety of materials covers organic, pharmaceutical, and inorganic compounds (oxides, zeolites, hydrides, intermetallics, catalytic systems). The main focus of this workshop will be on the practical handling of in situ X-ray diffraction experiments. The influence of different diffractometer geometries, radiation, preparation methods, and sample properties on the data will be discussed and explored by practical exercises. Chemical reactions will be monitored both at high and low temperatures as well as under reaction conditions. Diplomants and Ph.D students are very welcome. No special knowledge is required for the workshop but it is advantageous to have a basic knowledge on crystallographic methods. During the workshop, the following topics are addressed: Measurement techniques, geometries of different in situ chambers Which instrument should be used for which problem? Preparation techniques Data collection strategies Powder diffraction at high/low temperature and under reaction conditions Investigation of air sensitive samples Data reduction of large series of powder patterns 3D-data presentation Analysis software The participants are encouraged to present their work as posters. Individual problems will be discussed. Software for the analysis of the sample data sets will be provided. For the practical sessions, a laptop-computer with Windows 2000 or XP is recommended. Location and Time: September 26, 2007, 9.00 am 6.30 pm, September 28, 2007, 9.00 am 5.00 pm Meeting point: 8.30 am in the foyer of the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung (Main entrance: Lembke Strasse) Workshop Fees: max. 60 Euro (depending on the generosity of the sponsors) Travel: Excellent connection by public transportation. Please check the workshop website. Language:The official language of the workshop is English. Information: Additional information will soon be available at: http://www.mpi-muelheim.mpg.de/xray/ Accomodation: Information about accommodation will be send right after registration. Reservations are in the responsibility of the participants. The workshop is limited to about 20 participants. -- Dr. Claudia Weidenthaler Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung Kaiser-Wilhelm-Platz 1 D-45470 Mülheim a.d.Ruhr Phone +49 (0) 208 306 2181 fax +49 (0) 208 306 2989 _____________________________________________________________ Dr Alan Hewat, ILL Grenoble, FRANCE<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>fax+33.476.20.76.48 +33.476.20.72.13 (.26 Mme Guillermet) http://www.ill.fr/dif/people/hewat/ _____________________________________________________________
