SM, Having had INEL instruments, I would like to point out that you should carefully determine the angle between the primary beam and the sample when you make measurements on both standards and samples. This has a huge effect on line profiles. Peaks, especially very low angle ones, will have a surprisingly anisotropic shape.
I usually used annealed In2O3 as both a line profile standard as well as a detector linearization standard: I always preferred conceptually the fact that this material has a large number of peaks, which should give a much better linearization curve (but make sure to measure the diffraction pattern on a separate instrument prior to trusting two theta peak positions - we used our D5000 - or use a well known material like the SRM materials).
