Indeed that's what happens, URLs are rewritten with the context path
included, so the parameter is just needed for regeneration.

In fact, this is the part that need testing, since I'm not sure how
the URL arrives into a servlet container that's fronted with a proxy
in this fashion. It might be that the URLs are rewritten and that I
just need to use this parameter for the generation.
