Hello all,
My friends and I use qTox ([
https://github.com/tux3/qTox](https://github.com/tux3/qTox) ) but we are
extremely disappointed with its developers' continuous ignoring of issues both
critical and universal. This lead me to trying Ring today and I am afraid it
too suffers from problems which would make a transition useless. I would like
to tell you about the problems I saw on your Windows version and when the major
ones are fixed, my friends and I will be more than happy to switch.
Major problems:
1. Impossible to start an audio only call;
2. Impossible to send a file;
3. No notification when a message has been received - neither sound nor visual;
4. No element for turning Ring off from the context menu of the tray icon - in
fact, if the setting for minimising instead of closing when pressing 'X' is on,
the only way to turn Ring off is by killing it through Task Manager.
Minor problems:
1. The user appears as its own contact which is useless, distracting and
therefore annoying;
2. There's no setting for always showing the time of the message. It can be
turned on from the context menu in the chat itself but then it sticks it right
after the end of the message instead of on a new line or all the way to the
other side (I personally prefer it this way because less vertical space is used
and there's more room for messages);
3. Installing the x64 version installs to Program Files (x86) instead of to
Program Files. It might seem insignificant but there's a possibility the link
to your x64 build actually points to a 32-bit one, never mind the name of the
file.
Once again, this is the Windows version. I tested with a friend who uses OS X,
he had no complaints besides being unable to find how to rename me from my key
to my name. I had to look for it myself - right click the user, then open a
window, then click "Add new contact" and then right the name. qTox, for
example, with all of its problems, has a direct item in the context menu - "Set
alias", which makes the contact editable directly in the list.
I found your bug tracker and I understand it would've been more convenient to
you if I filed these one by one. Unfortunately, this is all the time I have at
present. Therefore I hope the list is useful to you as is.
Thank you for your time and work.
