It's ok! I wasn't going to! If you check my post again you'll see that
I was only expecting to get a lossy (but gapless) version of my
lossless files on to the ipod...

Since I wrote the post, I've decided to stick with WMA lossless for
home, as I discovered that itunes lets you import WMA lossless (which
it then converts to AAC, which can be transferred to an ipod), so the
issue goes away.
