Have you tried different amplification with those B&W speakers?   I
auditioned some B&W Nautilus 801s, and compared them side by side to
McIntosh LS360s and Tannoy Dimension TD-12.   I found the B&W to be ,
by far, the brightest, most "edgy" of the lot.  I've never auditioned
any of the Denon HT receivers, but I have read that they tend to sound
on the "bright" side as well.  Those two factors, coupled together,
might be the source of your audio distress.

Long term, you could integrate a two-channel system with separate
amplification into your HT and simply use an auxillary input on the
two-channel pre-amp/amp for the Left and Right Front line level outs on
your Denon.
