Probably not; as the slimserver probably wouldn't see the file in the first place. Default permissions are usually sensible. Are you using NTFS or FAT32? I would also run chkdsk on the drive, it might be corrupted (especially if it is FAT32). Tom PS. This is one of the many reasons I am running slimserver on linux!
