Ok, the more I looked at this, the more I felt it was probably a problem
with a Perl module on my system.

KDF downloaded a sample file from me, and reported that all worked well
on his (7.0 based) system. I tried 7.0, and mine still didn't work.

So I started trying to work out what Perl module might be the culprit.

I found the following files:

/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.4/Audio/FLAC/Header.pm
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.4/auto/Audio/FLAC/Header/Header.bs
/usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.4/auto/Audio/FLAC/Header/Header.so

After renaming them and restarting SlimServer, a scan now picks up all
of the files that were previously causing a problem.

I suspect the cause was the two files in the 'auto' directory, anyone
tell me what these are?

Thanks a lot to kdf for pushing me in the right direction.

Andy
