Various artists gave me headaches, too. I had the same problem others
mentioned here: when I browsed my albums, I had as many albums as there
are artists in the compilation.

I think I solved it. The problem was my EAC configuration, not
Slimserver. The way I configured it, EAC creates an artist folder (if
it doesn't exist already), then creates an album folder and then rips
all the songs in that folder. Now, that works very well for ordinary
albums, but its not good at all for compilations.

For example, I ripped "Great Jewish Music: Serge Gainsbourg" in a
various artists folder I named after the album. EAC then created a
folder for each artist in the compilation, then created a "Great Jewish
Music: Serge Gainsbourg" in each one of those folders, then ripped the
song in that folder.

But if you want various artists to work properly, you only want one
folder, named after the album. In my case, its "Great Jewish Music:
Serge Gainsbourg". You then copy all the songs in that folder.

I noticed something odd, though. The artists that figure only in a
compilation and not in any other of your albums will only figure in the
various artists. For example, in my compilation, I have a song by Cibo
Mato, but I don't have anything else by them. Well, Cibo Mato will not
figure in the artist listing under "C", they will only figure under
various artist.
